Best Business to Start in Big Ambitions

The best first business to open in Big Ambitions, ranked by what the community and developer actually recommend — Clothing, Law, Jewelry and a safe starter.

Your first shop decides how fast you reach your first million. The community and the developers consistently recommend the same short list.

The short answer

If you only have time to read one section: start with a cheap standalone shop to learn the loop, then build toward Clothing + Jewelry, supplied by your own Factory.

That's the path most experienced players — and the developers themselves — point to.

Why Clothing and Jewelry

On the official Steam Discussions, the consensus answer to "what's the most profitable business" comes back to the same trio: Clothing, Law, and Jewelry. The developers have also confirmed in forum replies that high-margin retail (Clothing, Jewelry) sits at the top once you have the supply chain behind it.

Clothing is the easiest of the three to scale because:

  • Clothing Stores are profitable in midtown — and the rule of thumb is to build one Clothing Store per district so each captures its own demand pool.
  • A single Clothing Factory with around 20 employees can supply a dozen or more Clothing Stores.
  • Cheap Clothing is available from the wholesaler, so you can run a Clothing Store at low profit before you build a Factory — and upgrade later.

Jewelry follows the same pattern but with higher per-item profit and slower turnover.

Why not start with Law

Law is tempting — it shows up in every "most profitable" thread — but it is also the most common trap. Players who opened a Law Firm with local demand in the mid-30s report ending up permanently in the red, even with the right location. Per the developers, Law (and Programming) profitability depends heavily on staff competence and salary costs, not just demand.

The honest advice: don't open a Law Firm as your first business. Open it later, in a district with proven high demand, once you understand the staffing math.

A practical first-week setup

If you want to see money on day one, this is the cheapest working setup the community uses:

  • One A1 Clothing Store next to your starter apartment. Stock primary products plus cheap Jewelry as secondary. You can run it on wholesaler supply.
  • One A1 Gift Shop or Fast Food as a low-risk second income stream — these pay modestly but they teach you pricing, marketing, and shift staffing.
  • Marketing at 100% with a mix of small outdoor ads and medium internet ads. Players report reaching 200k+ per day from a tiny A1 shop on this setup.

When to build the Factory

The transition from "shop owner" to "business owner" happens when you open your second store of the same type in a different district. At that point, build a Clothing Factory (20 employees is enough) and route its output to your stores. The factory pays for itself in a few in-game days because you stop buying from the wholesaler.
