The Business section is the heart of Big Ambitions. You start with a single shop and grow it into a multi-store empire — and the path you take (a Clothing chain, a Law firm, a Jewelry boutique, or a factory-supplied retail network) decides how fast the money rolls in and where the real bottlenecks sit. Below is what the developers and experienced players say actually works.
What the developer ranks
The lead developer (David Estes Creations, on the official Steam discussion thread) ranks the top businesses as Clothing first, Law second, Jewelry third. That ordering comes straight from the "Most profitable business" thread on Steam — and it matches what experienced players report in practice. Clothing stores and Law firms pull in more revenue than any other retail type, with Jewelry shops as the steady high-margin third option.
Real profit numbers (from players)
- A fully-built Clothing store — 50+ clothing racks, 4 checkouts, max advertising, max employees, open 16 hours a day, 7 days a week — is reported to bring in roughly $130k–$160k per day.
- A Law firm with 10 staff at 100% skill, $800/hour fees, and only ~10% foot-traffic, makes about $5,000/day. The same firm in a 40%-traffic location clears $20,000+ daily.
- A small A1 store with the right products and advertising can still reach $200k+ — store size matters less than product mix, location, and staff quality.
The Law pricing trick most players miss
The developer's direct tip: raise Law fees much higher than the default, as long as your staff are at 100% skill. Many players keep Law fees low and bleed money — a common complaint in the same Steam thread is "I closed my law firm because it was always in the red", and the developer's reply is always to push the per-hour rate up several times higher once employees are skilled. Demand for legal services sits in the mid-30s in every region, so there is plenty of demand to support the higher fee.
Store size and traffic matter more than you think
Players who run multiple M1-size stores consistently outperform single-A1 setups. Foot-traffic is the single biggest multiplier on top of staff skill — the same Law firm that earns $5k/day at 10% traffic can earn $20k+ at 40%. Choose locations on busy blocks before you pour money into upgrades.
Factories unlock the high-margin stores
Clothing and Jewelry shops that sell the full product line need a factory feeding them. A clothing factory with around 20 employees can already supply a dozen stores' worth of expensive clothing. Electronics factories are more lucrative per unit but need ~200 employees and many more input goods — most players start with Clothing and move into Electronics later. Cheaper clothing and basic goods can be sourced straight from the large wholesaler by the waterfront, which is cheaper than the small wholesaler the tutorial sends you to.
Why hairdresser and food shops feel weak
Service shops like Hairdresser and Fast Food look attractive but pay out much less. A Hairdresser only has roughly 13 hours of daily customer flow — running 24-hour shifts is wasted salary. Aim for max advertising and tight opening hours, not round-the-clock coverage.
