Big Ambitions Items & Products

How products work in Big Ambitions — where stock comes from, wholesale vs. import pricing, storage, and the fixtures your shop is required to install.

Every shop in Big Ambitions lives or dies on the products it stocks. The Items section covers where goods come from, what they cost, how much storage they need, and the fixtures your business is required to install before it can legally operate. Understanding the sourcing maths here is what separates a shop that breaks even from one that funds your next factory.

Where stock comes from

There are three ways to fill your shelves, and they are not interchangeable:

  • Wholesalers — the simplest route. Walk in, buy in bulk, haul it back yourself. Convenient early on, but the per-unit cost is higher.
  • Importers — goods ordered through a Purchasing Agent and delivered to your warehouse. Cheaper per unit, but each contract has a minimum purchase price, deliveries arrive at midnight on the delivery day, and you need pallet shelves free to receive them. Each importer stocks a different catalogue, and an agent can only work one importer at a time.
  • Your own factory — the cheapest per unit once running, and the only way to reach the high-margin clothing, jewelry, and electronics tiers.

Worked example: the Umbrella

The Umbrella shows why the sourcing choice matters. It is primarily sold from Gift Shops, and also from Florists and Bookstores.

  • Wholesale price: $1,476.10 for 200 units — roughly $7.38 each
  • Import price: $3.44 each (ordered through BlueStone Imports)
  • Recommended retail price: $24.00
  • Storage: Product Panel, 100 units per panel (CC: 10)

Importing costs less than half the wholesale unit price, so on a $24.00 shelf price the imported stock leaves roughly $20.56 of gross margin per unit versus about $16.62 on wholesale stock. The trade-off is overhead: an importer contract ties up a Purchasing Agent, enforces a minimum order value, and only works if your warehouse has space.

Fixtures your business is required to have

Some items are not for sale at all — they are compliance requirements. The bathroom stall is the classic example. Players on version 0.9 reported being unable to find stalls anywhere, and installing a plain toilet did not satisfy Uncle Fred's tutorial requirement.

The fix is in the game's own help: stalls are listed under Essentials Appliances, so check the in-game help or the F1 menu to locate the exact fixture rather than guessing. Players also found that placing regular toilets in a restaurant's main dining area satisfied the business's toilet requirement — though customers were noticeably unhappy about the arrangement.

If a fixture or product you have read about does not appear in your game, check your build first. Experimental versions ship on Steam's beta branch: right-click the game, open Properties, and opt into the beta to get the newest content.

Where to go next

  • Umbrella Stand — full sourcing, pricing, and margin breakdown for the umbrella, plus the shop types that sell it.
  • Bathroom Stall — where to find stalls in 0.9, which businesses require them, and how to switch to the beta branch.
